Meet Umi – A Gentle, Shy Lovebug Looking for His Special Someone

Umi is a quiet, affectionate soul with a heart full of love—once he feels safe. Though shy at first, this sweet boy is a true cuddlebug when he warms up. He’s observant and thoughtful, always aware of where his human is. He’ll quietly sneak up for pets and affection, and when the mood strikes, he’s a total lap cat—refusing to give up a good snuggle session!

Umi thrives in a calm, predictable environment where he can have his own space to retreat and recharge. Sudden movements or loud noises startle him easily, so he would do best in a quiet home without young children. He’s also very shy around other animals, especially larger or high-energy pets. A calm, smaller companion—or being the only pet—might suit him best.

While he may need time to settle in, Umi’s gentle nature and playful side blossom once he’s comfortable. He has bursts of energy and adores interactive play—string toys and soft, quiet toys like springs are his absolute favorites.

Ideal Home for Umi:
• A quiet, low-stress environment
• Patient humans who respect his need for space and gentle introductions
• Possibly a calm, smaller pet companion (he’s intimidated by bigger, bolder cats)
• No young children due to his sensitivity to noise and fast movements
• A home where he can be both doted on and allowed to retreat when he needs comfort

Umi is easy to handle and can be picked up gently, but he doesn’t enjoy being grabbed or startled. What he truly needs is someone who sees the beauty in a soft-spoken, sensitive cat—and is ready to love him at his pace.

Umi has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated and has received preventative flea and worm treatments.

CATS has a Trial Adoption program. This program allows you to take a cat home for a period of time before you finalize the adoption, to determine if you and the cat are a good lifelong match. Matches will be made for residents living on Vancouver Island only at this time.

Please note, the best applicant will be chosen for the best fit for the cat, adoptions are not on a first come first served basis.

Please note we do not adopt kittens on their own. They must be adopted in pairs or you must have a young cat already in the home as a mate.

Adoption fees:
Kittens, up to one year – $300
Adults, 1-10 years – $225
Adults, 10-15 years – $175
